The Agricultural Transformation Initiative (ATI) convened its second annual Agricultural Transformation Summit. The summit sought to encourage knowledge sharing and idea generation in several ways, one of which was with an Agricultural Technology Fair called the “AgTech Challenge.” Primary, secondary and tertiary students presented innovations that addressed challenges faced by Malawian groundnut farmers. Noted inventor and author William Kamkwamba (The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) served as a guest judge and mentor to student participants.
After one year of programming, the Agricultural Transformation Initiative (ATI) convened its second annual Agricultural Transformation Summit on November 14, 2019. Focused on the theme of inclusive science, technology, and innovation, the event sought to encourage knowledge sharing and idea generation to drive agricultural transformation in Malawi.
Global trends in artificial intelligence, automation, and bioinformatics are changing agriculture. If the Agricultural Transformation Initiative’s (ATI) investments into market-driven solutions are to reap benefits for smallholder tobacco farmers, agricultural market actors and farmers must have the high-tech skills necessary to succeed in twenty-first century agriculture. ATI is investing in global partnerships to bring world-class educational opportunities to aspiring Malawians.
