Program Manager

Mphatso Dakamau supervises the Agricultural Transformation Initiative’s program development and operations. He is responsible for securing internal and external partners to design, implement, and manage grant and investment programs that provide income diversification opportunities for smallholder farmers in Malawi.

Mphatso has more than 13 years of experience in Agribusiness, Policy; Project management; and Organizational development. He has extensive experience working with multi-stakeholders in the tobacco, legumes, cotton, agricultural, and banking sectors. Most recently, Mphatso has worked as The Country Officer for the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa, where he was responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination to ensure effective implementation of country programs, scope and develop project proposals, and manage projects. Mphatso played a pivotal role in the process of mainstreaming of aflatoxin control in the National Health and Agriculture Investment Plans in Malawi, and he led the process of developing the National Food Safety Policy for Malawi.

Earlier in his Career, Mphatso served in different positions including being Program Manager at African Institute of Corporate Citizenship, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator at Farmers Union of Malawi, and Bank Manager at Opportunity International Bank of Malawi. Mphatso has also served in several other government-led technical working groups such as National FISP taskforce, ASWAP TWGs, TISWAP, Food safety task team, Legumes Development Trust, National Aflatoxin control technical working group, Horticultural development task force, National conservation agriculture taskforce, and the Malawi Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services.

Mphatso holds an MSc in agricultural economics and a BSc degree in Agribusiness from the University of Malawi.
