Chief Health, Science & Technology Officer
As the Chief Health, Science & Technology (HST) Officer, Bill True is responsible for advancing the Foundation’s strategic plan by cultivating scientific research that can catalyze the end of smoking. In addition to managing the HST team, Bill is developing and maintaining relationships with innovators in the public and private sectors. This work includes collaboration with government, academic, and corporate scientists, with the goal of identifying areas for potential grant investment.
Bill possesses extensive scientific knowledge and strong operational experience leading product and technology innovation, R&D, manufacturing, engineering, flavor development, regulatory affairs & science, and project management. He has held senior strategic leadership positions and spearheaded a number of successful endeavors across a range of diverse consumer products and B2B industries, including e-vapor, specialty chemicals, pharma intermediates, tobacco, automotive, and fiberglass/carbon fiber composites.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Bill served as CEO and Chief Technical Officer of Curian Inc., where he was the principal architect behind the product and engineering roadmap for the company’s full service, turn-key solution for the ethanolic extraction of cannabis and hemp. Previously, Bill was Chief Technical Officer at Fontem Ventures, and the Senior VP of Research and Development at Lorillard Tobacco Company.
Bill holds a PhD in chemistry from Vanderbilt University, as well as a BA in chemistry from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
