Director, Epidemiology, Health, Science, and Technology
As Director of Epidemiology for Health, Science, and Technology, Sarah Rajkumar, PhD, develops and evaluates requests for proposals and serves as the technical focal point for grantees. Dr. Rajkumar collaborates in advancing the research agenda and defining strategies for the Health, Science, and Technology pillar of the Foundation.
Her strong affinity for intercultural exchange led to Dr. Rajkumar’s participation in several studies on the exposure and health effects of biomass cook stoves in women and children. Dr. Rajkumar has co-authored numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals on respiratory and cardiovascular health effects of cook stoves, secondhand smoke, and workplace smoking bans. Her research locations include Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, and North and Central America.
Fluent in German, French, and Spanish, Dr. Rajkumar currently resides in Basel, Switzerland. She earned a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland and her PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel, Switzerland.
