As the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World begins its work to accelerate an end to smoking, it has commissioned qualitative and quantitative studies in 13 countries to determine perceptions of smoking harmfulness and addictiveness, smoking behavior patterns, perceptions of risk, and barriers to quitting. The survey will help gain a clear understanding of the current landscape of smoking habits across the world and chart a path forward.
The 13 countries were selected for their diversity in a number of areas, including smoking population demographics, tobacco control policies, and historical and current approaches to smoking cessation. This diversity is reflected in the Foundation’s country-specific State of Smoking reports, which may also be accessed below.
