We are a group of Toronto high school students that work with TeenNet on analysing and discussing topics surrounding tobacco and globalization.

Since March 2002 we have looked at a wide range of international tobacco issues. In particular we have investigated three key topics: international marketing to women and children, the economic impact of tobacco, and the use of Western images to promote tobacco sales overseas.

In order to take action on these issues, we decided to develop a website to help spread the word and educate other young people. We also developed an interactive youth-focused workshop that we have presented at various youth conferences.

We look forward to more opportunities to present our workshop, and to improve our ability to take action on global tobacco issues.

What We've Done
To form connections with youth from around of the world in order to access diverse perspectives and experiences around tobacco.

"Why Tobacco Is A Global Issue" Workshop Outline
For many years the tobacco industry has tried to get young people hooked on smoking, in order to continue getting new users for their product. Now big Tombacco companies are starting to aggressively promote smoking to children, teens, and women in Southern* countries (such as India, Kenya, and Taiwan). Join youth from the Smoke Free World project as they use a game show activity to explore how the tobacco industry targets young people around the world. There will be lots of prizes during the game!
